Piano Lessons
Students at Schaumann Studios have a variety of musical experiences for a well-rounded music education. The weekly piano lessons include an assortment of musical activities and games, and the repertoire is varied and tailored to the students' interests. There are also occasional group classes, and multiple performance opportunities. Learning the piano at Schaumann Studios is fun and engaging.
Buddy Piano Lessons- 50 min's (ages 6 and up)
Buddy piano lessons offer the benefit of private and group instruction every week. Buddy lessons are 30 min's of private lesson time followed by 20 min's of overlapping "buddy time" with the next student. In the students private lesson time, we will work on music reading, technique, and repertoire. During this buddy time we work on duets, theory, and ensemble improvisation.
Private Piano Lessons- 30, 45 or 60 min's
Learning to play the piano should be an exploration of music. Although classical music is a core component of piano lessons, a variety of activities are included in lessons such as technique, sight reading, improvisation, rote learning, and repertoire. Students enjoy playing a variety of musical styles such as jazz, ragtime, blues, pop, contemporary, classical, duets, new age and whatever they are interested in learning. It's this wide variety of musical experiences that keep lessons fun and engaging.
Performance Opportunities
There are two recitals each year for all students. The recitals are supportive environments where each student has the opportunity to succeed, no matter their skill level. The recitals are a great opportunity for the students to build their performance skills, stage presence, and confidence.
In addition to recitals, students have the opportunity to participate in studio performance classes and workshops. At these "piano parties," the students perform for each other, give positive feedback to each other, and play games.
There may be other performance opportunities throughout the year such as piano festivals and competitions with the Music Teachers Association of California, and Royal Conservatory of Music level testing. Students are enrolled in these additional events when they are well prepared, with the expectation that the performance opportunity will be a positive experience.

The most important part of learning to play the piano is daily practice. The parents role in this is crucial to their child's success. The parents will need to be ready to help with keeping the routine of practicing and structuring practice time by helping your child follow the teacher's notes which are found in the Practice Space App. It doesn't matter if you can read music or not, all parents can help out at home.
Choose a specific time of day that works for your family (before school, after dinner, etc.) and make music practice a regular and consistent event every day. Be positive and provide constant encouragement. Comment often about their progress. Remember the names of the pieces they are working on and make requests to hear them as you go about your day to encourage regular visits to the piano.
The better quality your child's practice instrument is, the better quality their practicing will be. Please keep your piano in good condition and tuned annually. An acoustic piano is required prior to beginning piano lessons.
Piano home practice expectations- ages 6-9, 30 min's, 5 days a week. Ages 10-13, 45 min's a day. Ages 14 and up will vary depending on skill level and school schedule.
